Top 5 Festive Activities for a Memorable Christmas Outing

Updated: Dec 15, 2024

Christmas season is finally here! It’s time for decorating, baking and more family time. So what are your traditions or favorite things to do this time of year? For some of you reading this, I realize that Christmas may not bring the most fond memories to mind, but you have the opportunity to change that. Many of you enjoy this time of year and have great childhood memories. What an opportunity to create memories with your children! Let’s talk about some fun ways to get out and enjoy this season!

Tree Lighting Ceremonies

In almost every city there is a tree lighting ceremony to kick off the season. If you have not subscribed to your city's official social media page, I encourage you to do so. This is where you can find the events your city is hosting all year long, especially at Christmas. Also, most major malls, shopping centers, churches and civic centers have tree lighting ceremonies. Along with the lighting of the tree, there is normally entertainment for the children. These events are normally free, which is an even bigger bonus.

Candy Cane Lane

This has to be one of my absolute fun and free activities. In most major cities, there is a neighborhood or multiple neighborhoods who decorate their houses and they are gorgeous and inviting. Some neighborhoods have different names for their neighborhoods but oftentimes you can search Candy Cane Lane in your neighborhood and find one near you. Finding a nearby neighborhood with Christmas decorations allows you to get out and walk to each house  and see all the intricate decorations. Grab some hot chocolate and enjoy that walk!

Santa’s Village & Workshop

Depending on where you live, there is normally a Santa’s Village where the grounds are completely decorated like the North Pole! If you live in Southern California, there is one in Lake Arrowhead.

Ice Skating

At this time of year there are a ton of outdoor and indoor skating rinks. My favorite are the outdoor skating rinks because they have such a Christmas vibe to them. Most downtown areas have created skating rink areas specifically for this time of year.

Christmas Concerts & Shows

Churches and other religious organizations have been practicing and planning for this time of year. Chances are that you have a church in your neighborhood and they are putting on a Christmas production. Most of the time these concerts or shows are free and a great way to support the community. If you have a local theater, this is always a great time to go see a show like the Nutcracker or other Christmas favorites!

Encouragement

My only encouragement to you today is to get out there and create memories! Enjoy your family and be present. As always mommas, YOU GOT THIS!
